Sri Lanka to limit maids working in Saudi Arabia
Updated On: 26 January, 2013 01:37 AM IST | | Agencies
Following the beheading of 17-yr-old Rizana Nafeek, a maid charged for murder in Saudi, Sri Lankan officials have decided to increase the minimum age to 25
Sri Lanka will limit the amount of women that go to Saudi Arabia to work as housemaids as outrage continues over Saudi Arabia’s beheading of a Sri Lankan teen. Officials this week raised the minimum age for female domestic workers so that no women under the age of 25 would be allowed to go to Saudi Arabia to work as a maid, said Keheliya Rambukwella, a government spokesman.

Before her execution, several activists chanted slogans demanding that their government assist in the release of Rizana Nafeek in 2011. Pic/AFP
