Officials of a town near Newtown, Connecticut, are renaming a local school for a resident killed in the massacre there and hailed as a hero. File Pics Shooter Adam Lanza killed 20 children and six educators at the school on December 14 before committing suicide. He also killed his mother at their Newtown home. It came as no surprise to Victoria&rsquo;s mother Donna Soto that her daughter died trying to save the kids. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/jan/1701soto.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 465px;" /> &ldquo;She was truly selfless,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;She would not hesitate to think to save anyone else before herself and especially children. She loved them more than life, and she would definitely put herself in front of them any day, any day, and for any reason.&rdquo; She added, &ldquo;We heard at one point that they found some people hiding in a closet and all of us said, &lsquo;Vicki would never be hiding in a closet, she would be out there protecting those babies&rsquo;. So it doesn&rsquo;t surprise anyone that knows Vicki that she did this.&rdquo; &ldquo;She just loved her kids and talked about them all the time with such fondness and caring. She just adored them.&rdquo; Mayor John Harkins made the recommendation which was approved, exactly one month after the shootings. The mayor also is hoping to build a memorial to Soto, and a petition has been started to rename a local street after her.u00a0Soto graduated from Stratford High School in 2003.u00a0 A song for Sandy Hook Children who survived the shooting rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary school have recorded a version of Over the Rainbow to raise money for charity. Twenty-one children performed the song. Most of them are current and former students of the school, where 20 first-graders and six staff members were killed. Kayla Verga (10), said she was singing for her friend, Jessica Rekos, who was killed. Barack Obama to unveil gun control plan US President Barack Obama will propose an assault weapons ban and better background checks for gun buyers as part of a package of proposals to curb gun violence one month after the Newtown school massacre. The proposals will include executive and legislative measures. Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, who led a task force that made recommendations on the issue, will present the measures at a White House event attended by children from around the country who wrote letters about gun violence and school safety.
