Jakarta: One of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia, Mount Sinabung, has erupted with a powerful burst of hot ash, a media report said on Monday.

According to officials, the eruption occurred on Sunday with 4,000 metre high column of ash spewed to the sky, Xinhua reported.

"Until now, the number of evacuees have escalated to 14,382," an official said.
Mount Sinabung is among more than 120 active volcanoes in Indonesia, which is prone to seismic upheaval due to its location in the Pacific Ring of Fire.
The Pacific Ring of Fire is an area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean which is associated with a continuous series of oceanic trenches, volcanic arcs, and volcanic belts. It has 452 volcanoes and is home to over 75 percent of the world's active and dormant volcanoes.
