A fleet of 23 aircraft, including water-bombing planes and helicopters, was deployed to tackle fresh flames near Grand Crohot beach on the Lege-Cap-Ferret peninsula. Firefighters continued efforts to stop the blaze from spreading amid difficult weather conditions.

Massive wildfires have forced around 330,000 people to flee homes, campsites and holiday resorts across France and Spain. In France alone, the Gironde wildfire has displaced 220,000 people after scorching an area nearly four times the size of Paris.

A wildfire in the hilly province of Avila has become Spain's largest on record, burning more than 500 square kilometres. Firefighters, military emergency brigades and aerial support remained on the frontlines as another heat wave approached.
