The latest escalation comes as tensions mount over the Strait of Hormuz. Efforts to reopen the strategic waterway without Iran's oversight have triggered days of crossfire, further raising regional security concerns.

A multinational maritime body overseen by the US Navy announced it would expand a shipping route near Oman for inbound and outbound vessel traffic. The move has emerged as a new point of contention between Tehran and Washington.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reiterated that Tehran alone must govern the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow passage linking the Persian Gulf to global markets and a vital route for oil and natural gas shipments.

"Any attempt to establish new or separate arrangements from those currently being carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran will only lead to further complications, delay the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and increase the level of tension," Araghchi said.

Despite Iran's position, the international community has long regarded the Strait of Hormuz as an international waterway, even though it lies within the territorial waters of Iran and Oman. Iran has recently attacked vessels using a route on the Omani side during a UN-backed evacuation effort.
