Khan underwent a medical examination at PIMS after being taken there amid heightened security. Doctors from Al-Shifa Hospital were also present during the examination.

The Supreme Court had directed that the 73-year-old former cricketer-turned-politician be taken to hospital following a medical report that said he was suffering from "level three plus" anxiety.

Khan's international media spokesperson Zulfi Bukhari had earlier said that the PTI founder was shifted to privately-owned Shifa International Hospital in compliance with the Supreme Court order.

Pakistan's Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said Khan was instead taken to PIMS because of the security situation allegedly created by PTI workers near and outside Al-Shifa Hospital.

Tarar said a team of doctors, including an ophthalmologist, cardiologist and physician, conducted a detailed examination and found Khan to be medically fit.

Tarar said Khan's sister, Uzma Khan, remained present throughout the medical examination and treatment.

According to Tarar, Khan was shifted back to Adiala Jail at approximately 5 am after the medical process was completed.

The Supreme Court had also ordered the formation of a medical board to assess Khan's health and provide treatment during his stay in hospital.

The court granted Khan one weekly meeting with his family while he was supposed to remain in hospital.

The government filed a petition seeking a review and recall of the Supreme Court's hospitalisation order. The court registrar's office later returned the petition, citing incomplete paper books.

Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party had threatened to file a contempt of court petition against the government if he was not admitted to hospital by Thursday night.
