During his visit, PM Modi offered prayers at the historic Prambanan Temple and interacted with officials involved in the restoration and conservation efforts.

A large number of people carrying the national flags of India and Indonesia gathered along the roads to welcome PM Modi and President Prabowo Subianto as they travelled to the temple.

Earlier, PM Modi shared an aerial view of the iconic temple complex on X and wrote, "The majestic Prambanan Temple."

India and Indonesia exchanged a Letter of Intent for an India-backed conservation and restoration project at the Prambanan Temple complex following talks between PM Modi and President Prabowo.

Built in the 10th century, Prambanan is Indonesia’s largest Hindu temple complex and is dedicated mainly to Lord Shiva. The site also features temples devoted to Vishnu and Brahma.

The walls of Prambanan Temple are decorated with intricate stone reliefs depicting scenes from the Ramayana, highlighting the cultural and spiritual links between India and Southeast Asia.

Speaking about India-Indonesia ties, PM Modi said, "India and Indonesia do not just share the sea; we also share our history. Our relationship is rooted in the legacy of the Ramayana and the Mahabharata..."

During bilateral talks, both leaders reviewed cooperation in trade, defence, maritime security, energy, healthcare, space, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

The two countries exchanged several bilateral documents covering maritime safety, space cooperation, defence, health, agriculture, science and technology as part of efforts to strengthen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
