PM Modi was conferred with the honorary 'Guardian of the Blue Horizon' title by Seychelles for his steadfast commitment to environmental conservation and advancing the aspirations of the Small Island Developing States

He also addressed the National Assembly of Seychelles during his state visit to the archipelagic island. "Your maritime domain extends across nearly 1.4 million square kilometres. This makes Seychelles not a small island state but a large ocean country. Long before the blue economy became a part of global discussions, Seychelles was already leading the way,” PM Modi said in his address

Seychelles has helped shape important global conversations in protecting marine ecosystems and in advancing innovations like blue bonds, he said. "When people look at a map, they may see Seychelles as a group of islands in the Indian Ocean. But we see something much greater. We see a nation whose horizons stretch far beyond its shores," he said. "The efforts being made by you to protect and preserve this natural wonder reflect our larger philosophy that humanity must live in harmony with nature. This sentiment resonates deeply in India as well. Let us work together to ensure that future generations inherit oceans that are healthier, safer, and more abundant than those we enjoy today," PM Modi added

 India and Seychelles on Sunday unveiled 19 outcomes following talks between PM Modi and President Herminie, expanding cooperation in areas ranging from defence and maritime security to digital payments, space, healthcare, agriculture and education. The package of outcomes reflects the broadening of New Delhi's engagement with the strategically located Indian Ocean archipelagic nation across security, connectivity, capacity building and development partnership

PM Modi then met his Mauritian counterpart Navinchandra Ramgoolam and discussed all facets of their bilateral relationship. This was PM Modi’s fourth meeting with Ramgoolam since the latter took office in November 2024. Meeting on the sidelines of Seychelles’ Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations, the two leaders reviewed the full spectrum of the India-Mauritius Enhanced Strategic Partnership, including development cooperation, maritime security, trade, capacity building and people-to-people ties, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
