Russia's Defence Ministry described the assault as a "massive" strike on military-related targets in nine Ukrainian cities. Moscow said industrial facilities, oil refineries, logistics hubs and port infrastructure were among the intended targets.

Despite Russia's claims, civilian areas including apartment buildings were damaged. Ukrainian officials said a 78-year-old woman was killed in the southern Zaporizhzhia region, while another person died in the northern Kharkiv region. At least 14 others were reported injured.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia continues to expand its missile capabilities and called for additional countermeasures. He urged European partners to supplement air defence assistance with further ballistic missile defence packages.
