Loud explosions rocked Kyiv as over 50,000 people took shelter in subway stations following air raid warnings. Emergency crews searched through collapsed buildings for victims.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said the attack was in response to recent Ukrainian long-range strikes targeting Russian oil facilities and supply routes.

Ukraine’s strikes inside Russia have targeted oil refineries, triggering fuel shortages and putting pressure on Moscow amid the ongoing war.

More than 30 locations across Kyiv were damaged in the Russian assault, including around 20 residential buildings, according to authorities.

A Russian strike in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region killed a 7-year-old girl and injured four others, including an 11-year-old, officials said.

Ukraine’s air force said Russia launched 74 missiles and 496 drones during the attack. Air defences intercepted several threats, but ballistic missiles remained difficult to stop.

Ukrainian forces also struck one of Russia’s largest oil refineries in the Nizhny Novgorod region and targeted a railway bridge used for military supplies, officials said.
