Thousands of residents took shelter in Kyiv's metro stations after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and authorities warned of the incoming missile and drone barrage, one of the largest attacks on the capital in recent weeks.

The assault damaged around 20 residential buildings and civilian infrastructure across Kyiv. Authorities reported destruction at nearly 30 locations, with rescue teams continuing operations amid fears the death toll could rise.

Emergency responders searched through damaged buildings and rubble across multiple districts, including Shevchenkivskyi, Desnianskyi, Darnytskyi and Holosiivskyi, where fires and structural collapses complicated rescue efforts.

Russian strikes triggered multiple fires, including on the roof of a 16-storey residential building in Holosiivskyi district and in private homes in Sviatoshynskyi district, where debris trapped residents.

A nine-storey residential building in Darnytskyi district suffered severe structural damage, with six floors collapsing after a direct strike. Emergency services also reported damage to nearby residential buildings and private homes.

Authorities recorded damage across several districts, including Pecherskyi, Solomianskyi, Obolonskyi and Podilskyi, highlighting the widespread impact of the overnight bombardment on civilian infrastructure.

Following the attack, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha urged international allies to speed up deliveries of air defence systems and missiles, describing the assault as a "night of horror" and warning that casualty figures could increase as rescue work continues.
