The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) warned that rainfall and winds were expected to intensify as Dujuan moved closer to the Kanto region (Pic/AFP)

The typhoon severely disrupted air travel across Japan. At least 275 flights were cancelled on Monday, including services operated by Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways. Rail services in Tokyo and neighbouring prefectures were also suspended or disrupted because of the worsening weather (Pic/X)

The JMA warned that so-called linear rain bands could develop over parts of Kanto and central Japan. Such systems can concentrate intense rainfall over a relatively narrow area for several hours (Pic/X)
