The Venezuelan government has declared a state of emergency in the worst-affected regions. Armed forces have been deployed to assist with relief and rehabilitation, while temporary shelters and medical camps are providing assistance to thousands of displaced families.

A 4.2-magnitude aftershock struck near the coast of Caracas and La Guaira on Monday morning. Residents rushed out of homes and offices into parks and open spaces as buildings shook, fearing further structural damage.

According to the Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research, the latest tremor originated in the Caribbean Sea, around 10 km off the coast of La Guaira, the region hardest hit by last week's powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude.

Many residents continue to remain outdoors, fearing additional aftershocks. "We are terrified. We have not slept properly since Wednesday. Every tremor makes us run out," said local resident Maria Lopez, describing the anxiety gripping affected communities.

Authorities say 774 buildings have either collapsed completely or suffered severe structural damage. Emergency responders remain engaged in intensive search-and-rescue operations, while officials have urged residents to avoid unsafe structures and follow evacuation advisories.
