New york nurses strike explained: Why 15000 walked out and what’s next

Fifteen thousand nurses are on strike in New York City for a second day, marking one of the largest nursing walkouts in the city’s history. The strike began after contract negotiations collapsed, with nurses demanding safer staffing levels, better pay, protection from workplace violence, and the preservation of healthcare benefits and pensions. Hospital management has rejected the demands, calling them financially unsustainable, while bringing in temporary and travel nurses to keep services running.
