Iran-US tensions are escalating after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed it intercepted and destroyed a US MQ-1 drone over the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian media reported that the IRGC attributed the claimed shootdown to a new advanced aerospace air-defence system integrated into Iran’s wider air-defence network. The claim has not been independently verified, and the United States has not confirmed the reported loss. The development comes alongside a fresh warning from Iran’s military leadership. Tehran has threatened what it described as continuous and painful attacks on US bases and interests across the region if Washington resumes military action against Iran. Meanwhile, the US Virtual Embassy in Tehran has issued a security alert urging American citizens to leave Iran immediately and warning against travel to the country amid the deteriorating regional security environment.
