According to investigators, the main accused allegedly lured the child away by offering chocolates. The viral video showed senior officers, including IG R V Ramya Bharathi, smiling and laughing before the press conference began. The visuals quickly triggered backlash, protests and candlelight vigils across Tamil Nadu. Opposition parties also attacked the Vijay government over law and order and alleged insensitivity.
