Local residents living near the Deonar dumping ground in Mumbai are once again facing serious problems, as a fresh fire broke out on Sunday afternoon, enveloping the stretch from Chembur to Navi Mumbai in smoke and seriously affecting the air quality.

Referring to the Deonar dumping ground fire, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentarian Kirit Somaiya on Monday said it is a 'dumping scam'.

Maharashtra Environment Minister Ramdas Kadam on Monday alleged that frequent fire incidents occurring in the Deonar dumping ground were a conspiracy to malign the Shiv Sena. He added that he will request the Chief Minister to initiate investigation into this.

A day after the Deonar dumping ground fire engulfed the area in thick smog, the local residents staged a protest against the administration at Azad Maidan on Tuesday.

Taking a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said only sloganeering won't help in solving the problem of Mumbai's Deonar dumping ground, which was recently in news due to massive fires.
