Lok Sabha Elections 2024: PM Modi Files Nomination Papers From Varanasi | WATCH

Prime Minister Narendra Modi filed his nomination from Varanasi for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, seeking a third term from the constituency on May 14. UP CM Yogi Adityanath, Pandit Ganeshwar Shastri Dravid, and NDA ally leaders, accompanied him while he filed for nomination. Varanasi goes in for polling on June 1 in the seventh and last phase of the general elections. PM Modi hopes to retain his seat in the holy Hindu city Varanasi, his constituency, from where he ran and won, first in 2014 and then again in 2019. Prior to filing nominations, PM Modi offered prayers at Kaal Bhairav Temple. He also performed Pooja at Dashashwamedh Ghar ahead of filing nominations. Watch video.

Amid the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, after the Congress ended weeks of suspense around its choice of candidates from the Raebareli and Amethi Lok Sabha constituencies, and fielded Rahul Gandhi from the Raebareli and KL Sharma from Amethi, the BJP launched a sharp attack on Congress' Top leadership, Rahul Gandhi, and asked them not to fear and not to contest.  BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said, "'Daro mat kahate kahate Rahul Gandhi, Amethi se lado mat'. This has become the new slogan of the Congress party. Today, with this announcement, Congress has confirmed that not a single member of the First family can contest in what they used to call the pocket boroughs of Amethi.  BJP national spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill said, "Rahul Gandhi has forgotten his own slogan-'Daro Mat' and ran away from Amethi. BJP leader Rohan Gupta said that they have not decided according to the aspirations of people and voters will give them an answer.

For the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, Congress finally announced its candidates for Amethi and Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seats. Rahul Gandhi has ducked the fight against Smriti Irani in Amethi as he will contest from Rae Bareli. In Amethi, Congress has fielded Kishori Lal Sharma against the sitting MP, Union Minister Smriti Irani. Earlier, there were speculations that Priyanka’s husband Robert Vadra may contest from Amethi. Feroze Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi represented the Rae Bareli seat in the Lok Sabha. Therefore, it is considered to be a bastion of the Gandhi Family. Sonia Gandhi has been the MP from the constituency since she won the 2006 by-poll. Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Dinesh Pratap Singh against Rahul Gandhi from Rae Bareli. Congress will contest 17 seats and the Samajwadi Party the remaining 63 seats in the electorally crucial state. Amethi and Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituencies will vote in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 20.
