In a major development in the Meerut Blue Drum Murder Case, a district court has sentenced Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla to death for the murder of merchant navy officer Saurabh Rajput. Saurabh was murdered in Meerut on March 3, 2025. His body was dismembered and concealed inside a blue drum with cement. The case drew widespread attention because of the circumstances of the crime and the subsequent investigation. The court, presided over by Judge Arvind Kumar Mishra, had found Muskan and Sahil guilty on September 30. The prosecution presented testimony from 22 witnesses, alongside forensic and post-mortem evidence. Government lawyer KK Chaubey sought the death penalty for both convicts.

While the ongoing investigations reveal details about Saurabh Rajput’s gruesome murder, accused Muskan's mother Kavita made an emotional appeal to the said, " I want to tell all the children out there that never hide anything from your parents. My child has committed a big mistake. I used to ask her continuously what the problem was, but she kept losing weight; she had lost 10 kg in 2 years. She hid a lot of things from us and that's why she is in jail today. We have no idea if she was brainwashed or did drugs...had she shared something with us, she wouldn't have been in this condition..."
