Mumbai rains have officially marked the advancement of the Southwest Monsoon in Mumbai on May 26. According to the India Meteorological Department, this arrival comes against the normal date of advancement, June 11. Thus, the monsoon has arrived in Mumbai 16 days earlier than usual. This marks the earliest monsoon advancement over Mumbai during the period 2001–2025. This rare early onset has brought with it intense rainfall and thunderstorms in Mumbai. Hours of relentless rain on Monday morning caused major waterlogging in low-lying areas such as King’s Circle, Mantralaya, Dadar TT, Parel TT, Kalachowki, Chinchpokli, and Dadar Station.
