At least 64 people have been killed in Rio de Janeiro’s deadliest police raid in history. Thousands of heavily armed officers stormed the favelas of Alemão and Penha, targeting the powerful Red Command (Comando Vermelho) gang that controls large parts of northern Rio.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has commenced a landmark eight-day diplomatic tour, beginning with his first bilateral visit to Ghana to strengthen ties with President Nana Akufo-Addo.
