Jhelum boat accident: Boat capsizes in J&K's Jhelum River, 4 dead

In a tragic incident, a boat carrying school children capsized in the Jhelum river in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir on April 16. The Jhelum boat accident killed 4 people. The Srinagar Administration has launched a rescue operation in the area. A State Disaster Response Force team was also deployed. At least six persons including four children have died. Meanwhile, 4 bodies have been recovered, while others are missing. The boat which has capsized was ferrying children from Gandbal to Batwara in Srinagar. Continuous rains over last two days have led to an increase in the water levels of several water bodies, including Jhelum. Watch video

Rescue and search is operation underway in Ganderbal Nowgam area of ​​Srinagar. 3 people are still missing in the boat capsizing incident that occurred in the Jhelum River yesterday. Officials said that the rescue operation continued till 11 pm last night but was halted due to darkness and heavy water flow in the river Jhelum. 14 killed after boat capsizes in Vadodara's Lake, govt forms high-level enquiry

A boat carrying children capsized in Vadodara's Harni Motnath Lake on January 18. 12 school children and two teachers were killed due to a boat capsizing incident. School children were on a picnic in Vadodara's Harni Motnath Lake when the mishap took place. The NDRF team is carrying out the rescue operations and rescued 20 people so far. Prime Minister Modi condoled the loss of lives due to a boat capsizing in Vadodara. He also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased. Meanwhile, Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel reached the incident site and inspected the rescue operations. The CM has ordered a strong inquiry and relevant sections of IPC have been invoked against accused. FIR has been registered and 9 teams have been formed to arrest the accused. CM Bhupendra Patel also visited the postmortem centre located at SSG Hospital in Vadodara. He also met the families of the children who lost their lives in the boat capsize incident. State Govt has announced Rs 4 Lakhs each for the next of kin of deceased, Rs 50,000 for injured.

India’s Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar's life-sized statue was unveiled at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on November 01. The life-size statue of Tendulkar, a 200-Test veteran, was unveiled on the eve of the India-Sri Lanka ICC World Cup 2023 encounter. The statue is dedicated to 50 years of Tendulkar’s life and has been installed by MCA near Sachin Tendulkar Stand at the stadium. Along with Tendulkar, his wife and Anjali and daughter Sara were also present for the function. The event was also attended by Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, Congress leader Sharad Pawar, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and treasurer Ashish Shelar. Sachin is considered as the greatest batter to have played the game. He holds the record for having the most runs and centuries scored in both ODI and Test Cricket.

Kerala Boat Tragedy: At least 22 people dead as boat capsized in Malappuram

In a major tragedy on May 07 a boat capsized in Kerala’s Malappuram. At least 22 people died in the mishap in the Tanur area of Malappuram, informed Kerala Revenue Minister K Rajan. The deceased and the injured have been shifted to the Government Medical College, Manjeri. Meanwhile, a National Disaster Response Force team has been deployed for the rescue operations. Expressing grief over the incident President Murmu took to Twitter calling the incident “extremely shocking and saddening”. PM Modi also paid his condolences to the dead and announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh for kin of the deceased. Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan also condoled the loss of lives in the Malappuram boat tragedy. Indian Navy's ‘Chetak’ helicopter has been called out to assist in the search and rescue operation.
