South Gujarat is battling one of its worst monsoon spells after Umbergaon in Valsad recorded an extraordinary 1,100 mm of rainfall in just 16 hours, triggering widespread flooding across Valsad, Surat and Navsari. Overflowing rivers, submerged roads, flooded homes and stranded residents have prompted a large-scale rescue operation. More than 2,200 people have been evacuated in Surat, while over 500 residents have been shifted to shelters in Valsad. The Indian Army, NDRF and SDRF have been deployed to assist rescue and relief efforts. 

PM Modi dedicated three new frontline naval ships—INS Surat, INS Nilgiri, and INS Vaghsheer—to the nation during their commissioning at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. INS Surat is a Guided Missile Destroyer, among the largest and most advanced in the world. INS Nilgiri is a next-generation frigate with advanced features that improve survivability, seakeeping, and stealth. It represents a major step in India’s naval capabilities. INS Vaghsheer is a submarine built with the help of France’s Naval Group, showcasing India's growing expertise in submarine technology. These ships strengthen India's naval defense and reflect the country’s progress in building advanced military technology domestically.
