The Bombay High Court has quashed TISS’s order compulsorily retiring a professor over the creation of a WhatsApp group for institute alumni without its consent. The court called the punishment “perverse” and “grossly disproportionate” and directed TISS to pay 50 per cent back wages

The accused have been identified as Tarik Momin, Rakesh Jain, Chintan Desai, Shakar Tyagi, G Gohel and Ajay Sharma. According to police, Gohel is a web developer with a BE degree from IIT Delhi and had earlier been booked in a cheating case in 2021. Tyagi works as an operations manager at a private bank
