A major political confrontation has erupted in West Bengal after Mamata Banerjee's convoy was confronted by protesters in Halisahar. Visuals from the incident show protesters surrounding the convoy, with shoes, water bottles and mud reportedly hurled towards the vehicles as Mamata was travelling to meet the family of deceased TMC worker Birju Keot. The incident has triggered a fresh political war between the TMC and BJP. TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee has accused West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari of "executing" what he described as a "state-sponsored attack" and has also alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah backed the incident.

Senior Trinamool Congress leader and former West Bengal minister Madan Mitra has resigned from all party posts and joined the rebel TMC faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee, dealing a fresh setback to Mamata Banerjee's party. After switching camps, Mitra launched a sharp attack on Abhishek Banerjee, alleging that the party had become centered around him and claiming he had urged Abhishek to step aside to help rebuild the organisation. The move comes amid growing dissent within the TMC following its recent electoral defeat.
