Amid the political storm in West Bengal that has erupted over the Sandeshkhali horror case, a major breakthrough has been achieved as the accused Shibu Hazra was arrested on Feb 17 from Basirhat. According to police, as many as 18 people have been arrested in the case so far. Notably, agitated villagers set fire to a poultry farm belonging to TMC leader Shivprasad Hazra. Residents claimed that Hazra took over their land against their will, leading to their agitation. Political storm broke out following the incident provoking to and fro allegations from state and national parties. The poor local women have narrated tales of horror of women being raped for years by leaders of Mamata Banerjee’s party Trinamool Congress and their henchmen in TMC’s party office.

Para-athlete Suvarna Raj, who has represented the country in global events, on February 3 accused the IndiGo airline crew of 'mistreatment', saying she requested the carrier to provide her a personal wheelchair at the aircraft door but the staff did not respond. On the IndiGo’s mistreatment, Suvarna alleged that she was mistreated by IndiGo crew members while taking a flight from New Delhi to Chennai. Suvarna had booked seat number 39D(Aisle) on the Chennai-bound flight on Friday. A day after Iran launched airstrike in Pakistan’s Balochistan, Pakistan military conducts retaliatory strikes against Iran. As per Pakistan Foreign Ministry, the armed forces conducted ‘Operation Marg Bar Sarmachar’ in Iranian territory. “This morning Pakistan undertook a series of highly coordinated and specifically targeted precision military strikes against terrorist hideouts in Siestan-o-Baluchistan province of Iran. A number of terrorists were killed during Intelligence-based operation- codenamed Marg Bar Sarmachar,” said Foreign Ministry of Pakistan. Iran recently targeted a terror outfit Jaish al-Adl’s headquarters and launched airstrikes in Pakistan’s Balochistan. Pakistan claimed that two children lost their lives, two sustained serious injuries in the airstrikes by Iran. Pakistan also strongly condemned the attacks and termed it as an “unprovoked violation” of its airspace. However, India has taken a pro-Iranian stance in the Pakistan-Iran Attack and emphasised ‘actions countries take for self-defense’.

The tensions in violence-hit Manipur heightened again after teenagers were allegedly “kidnapped and killed” by armed miscreants. Acting swiftly on it, Home Minister Amit Shah appointed CBI Special Director, and other officials in Manipur to investigate the matter. The CBI team led by Special Director Ajay Bhatnagar reached Manipur on September 27 to investigate the murder of two students. Meanwhile, Manipur CM Biren Singh informed that the CBI has arrested four accused from Churachandpur in this case.

A 36-year-old Amazon manager lost his life and another man got injured after unknown assailants opened fire at them at Subhash Vihar near Bhajanpura area in North Delhi on August 29. The incident took place around 11.37 pm. The deceased was identified as Harpreet Gill. The injured person is currently under treatment in the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital (LNJP). Delhi Police on August 31 made an arrest in connection with the Bhajanpura murder case. The accused was apprehended near Signature Bridge at about 2 a.m.

Five Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Rajya Sabha have lodged complaints about their alleged unauthorised inclusion in a proposed Select Committee on the Delhi Services Bill by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha. This move has triggered a call for a Privilege Motion against Chadha, stirring debates and discussions within the parliamentary framework. Home Minister Amit Shah has also accused Chadha of fraudulent activity. He called for an investigation by the parliament's Privilege Committee into this matter. The proposal for the creation of the Select Committee itself was made by Chadha, with the intention of subjecting the Delhi Services Bill to thorough scrutiny. In response to the allegations, Chadha maintained his readiness to address the situation. Chadha's effort to send the bill to a select committee was eventually defeated by a voice vote.

India has bagged a big diplomatic win in the famous Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala murder case. One of the prime accused, Sachin Bishnoi has been extradited to India from Azerbaijan. Delhi Police Special Cell has carried out this extradition from Baku, capital city of Azerbaijan. Sachin, a relative of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, had been absconding after the murder of Moosewala in May 2022. A few days before Sidhu Moosewala’s murder, Sachin Bishnoi fled the country using a forged passport. Sidhu Moosewala, 28, was shot dead on May 29, 2022 in Mansa, a day after Punjab govt curtailed his security cover. The singer was shot at point-blank range and was declared dead upon arrival at the Mansa Civil Hospital. The assailants fired over 30 rounds at Moosewala, who was found slumped in the driver's seat by locals. The investigation suggested gangster Lawrence Bishnoi was the mastermind of the broad daylight killing. Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi has been brought to Delhi from a Gujarat jail and lodged in the national capital's Mandoli prison.

A day after the video of Manipur women brutalised went viral, state Chief Minister N Biren Singh on July 20 termed it as a crime against humanity and assured that the government will ensure capital punishment for the accused. “We saw the video and I felt so bad, it's a crime against humanity. I immediately ordered the police to arrest the culprits and the state government will try to ensure capital punishment for the accused. Every human being should condemn it,” he added.

In an appalling incident, a man in Madhya Pradesh was filmed urinating on the face of a tribal boy. While there is no clarity on when the incident occurred, the video depicting the act was shared widely on social media on Tuesday, July 4, triggering widespread condemnation. The man shown in the video has reportedly been identified as Pravesh Shukla, apparently a close aide of BJP MLA Kedar Nath Shukla. A case has been registered against him under the National Security Act, SC/ST Act and sections of the Indian Penal Code. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan reacted to the video and said that he has given orders to deliver strictest punishment to the accused. Madhya Pradesh’s Home Minister Narottam Mishra also informed that action is being taken against the accused and that orders of investigation have also been given. Madhya Pradesh police on July 05 arrested accused Pravesh Shukla into custody.
