The Election Commission of India on March 16, Saturday, announced dates for Lok Sabha elections 2024. The first phase of voting will be held on April 19, 2024. The elections will be held in seven phases. The counting of votes for all ballots will be held on June 4. The announcement was made by Chief Election Officer Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu. Kumar said 55 lakh electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be used.

After years of delay, Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019 has been finally implemented in India. The Union Home Ministry has notified rules for implementation of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) on March 11, days ahead of LS Polls 2024. Home Minister Amit Shah, on multiple occasions, said that CAA rules would be notified ahead of the Lok Sabha elections to be held in April-May. Since 2020, MHA has been regularly seeking extensions from Parliamentary committees to continue process of framing rules associated with it. Following the passage of CAA by Parliament in Dec 2019 and its subsequent Presidential assent, significant uproar erupted in various parts of country. Over a hundred individuals lost their lives either during protests or due to police action subsequent to passage of law in Parliament. Notably, TMC, led by Mamata Banerjee, has been opposing the CAA which also included a massive uproar in WB. Notably, assurance of implementing CAA was a significant electoral agenda for BJP ahead of the LS Polls 2024

General Secretary of Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee Sarwan Singh Pandher on March 05 called for a nationwide ‘Rail Roko’ protest on March 10. He appealed to the citizens of Punjab and all over India to stop trains only in stations and railway crossings in the presence of railway staff in the context of the ‘Rail roko’ protest. Taking a dig at BJP, he further said, “The BJP’s hands are stained with the blood of farmers". The Modi government doesn’t care about the farmers. They are not interested in even giving answers about whether they will grant MSP Legal Guarantee law or not. They are busy in their work", he added.

BJP has fielded PM Modi from Varanasi for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024. BJP on March 02 released its first list of 195 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls. Of 195 candidates, 34 are ministers from the Centre, States while two are former CMs. The party Notably, PM Narendra Modi will be seeking the third consecutive term from Varanasi constituency. Taking to X, PM Modi expressed his gratitude to the party and its workers for showing a constant faith in him. At least 11 people have been killed while over 60 others were injured after a massive fire broke out inside a firecracker factory in Madhya Pradesh’s Harda leading to several explosions, and triggering panic among locals in the nearby areas. Addressing the people, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said that over 50 ambulances were sent to the spot and Minister Ranvendra Pratap Singh, DG Home and around 400 police officials also went to the accident site. The chief minister also announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the deceased while the injured will be given free treatment. PM Modi announced that Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased and the injured will be given Rs 50,000.

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri announced a new oil discovery in the country. Hardeep Singh Puri said that the first oil was extracted yesterday 30 kilometres off the coast of Kakinada in the Krishna Godavari Basin. Hardeep Singh Puri said, “30 kilometres off the coast of Kakinada in the Krishna Godavari Basin, the first oil was extracted yesterday. Work started on this in 2016-17, then there were some delays due to COVID, but I'm sure that out of the 26 wells there, 4 wells are already operational. We will not only have gas also in a very short period but by May and June, we hope to be able to produce 45,000 barrels per day, which will be 7 per cent of our total crude oil production and 7 per cent of our gas production.” Narendra Taneja said, “This is a huge step. They first conduced a search operation in deep sea near Krishna-Godavari Basin and then started production. We have now started 47,000 barrels of ONGC production from there. In future, it will be 75000 barrels.” The place where the oil is extracted is 30 kilometres off the coast of Kakinada in the Krishna Godavari basin. Phase 3, leading to peak oil and gas production from the basin, is already underway and likely to be over in June 2024. The 98/2 project is likely to increase Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC)'s total Oil and Gas production by 11 per cent and 15 per cent respectively. India, the world's third-biggest oil importer and consumer, is dependent on crude oil from various sources in the global market to meet its domestic demand.

Air India Express on October 18 rebranded its aircraft with a new logo, livery. The event was held at the Mumbai airport. The new Air India Express mainly features four colours including orange, turquoise, tangerine and ice blue. According to the airline, the livery of the first new Boeing 737-8 aircraft was inspired by the Bandhani textile design. Air India Express is in the process of mearing with AIX Connect-Air Asia India and will operate as one airline. This comes a little over two months after Air India unveiled its new brand identity.
