Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on April 14 inaugurated the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar on his 132nd birth anniversary. He also paid floral tribute to Dr BR Ambedkar. Minister of State for Social Justice, Ramdas Athawale was also present during the inauguration. Meanwhile NCP’s Supriya Sule paid tribute to Dr BR Ambedkar at Chaityabhoomi in Mumbai.

Maharashtra Governor Bhagatsingh Koshyari stoked a fresh controversy after comparing Chhatrapati Shivaji and Dr BR Ambedkar. Dr Koshyari said, "If someone asks youngsters who is your icon? Who is your favorite leader? So you don't need to go out. You will meet them in Maharashtra itself. Shivaji Maharaj belongs to old times. I am talking about modern times from Dr BR Ambedkar to Nitin Gadkari.’’

This week, we look we look at how the Next Page library, run by the Next Page Community Foundation at Govandi’s Shivaji Nagar is providing a space for children to develop a habit for reading and explore books of different genres. Managed by young members of the community, the library offers accessibility and exposure to literature from India and abroad to neighbourhood kids, often coming from non-privileged socio-economic backgrounds.

From first editions of his books to original letters, documents and old photographs, the library is a treat to those intrigued by Ambedkar’s mention.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray paid floral tributes to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on his 131st birth anniversary at 'Chatiyabhoomi' in central Mumbai. Chaityabhoomi at Shivaji Park is the memorial of Ambedkar, a key architect of India's Constitution. Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, State Tourism and Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray, Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, BMC chief Iqbal Chahal, Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil, Maharashtra Congress Chief Nana Patole and many others were present with the chief minister on the occasion. Ambedkar followers also visited the venue and paid their respects.
