Lok Sabha Elections 2024: "Jammu & Kashmir will get its statehood back" PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday assured that the Centre is committed to restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir adding that assembly elections will also be held soon. "The time is not far when assembly elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir also. Jammu and Kashmir will get back its state status. You will be able to share your dreams with your MLAs, and your ministers," PM Modi said while addressing a public rally in Udhampur. The Prime Minister said that whatever he has done so far is only serves as a trailer of the work that he is yet to do in the region. He pointed out that now after decades, elections were taking place in Jammu and Kashmir without fear of terrorism and cross border firing. Watch video for more.

In the early days of Indian democracy, elections were conducted using traditional paper ballots. But in a bid to modernize the electoral process and enhance efficiency, a significant transition took place – the introduction of Electronic Voting Machines or EVMs. Let's take a look into how the transition from paper ballots to EVMs in Lok Sabha elections took place. Before the advent of EVMs, voters cast their votes by marking their choices on paper ballots. These ballots were then placed in sealed ballot boxes. Counting paper ballots was a time-consuming process, often requiring days or even weeks to tally the votes accurately. Additionally, there were concerns about ballot stuffing, tampering, and errors in counting. So to curb the issue, electronic Voting Machines, the game-changer in the world of elections, came into the picture.
