Israel has claimed a major victory against Hamas after announcing that senior commander Mohammed Odeh was killed in an airstrike in Gaza City. According to Israeli officials, Odeh had reportedly become one of the top leaders of Hamas’s Qassam Brigades following recent leadership losses inside the militant group. The strike reportedly targeted Gaza City’s Remal neighbourhood, causing heavy destruction and casualties just as residents were preparing for Eid celebrations. Israeli authorities said the operation followed months of intelligence tracking focused on Odeh’s movements and operational network. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz issued a fiery statement after the attack, claiming Odeh had been “sent to the depths of hell.” Israel also accused the Hamas commander of helping coordinate the October 7 attacks on southern Israel. Hamas has not officially confirmed either Odeh’s appointment or his death.
