Preparations are underway to burn the 171-foot tall effigy of Ravana at Shalimar ground in Haryana’s Panchkula ahead of the Dussehra celebrations on October 23. The 171-foot-tall effigy of Ravana has been built at a cost of Rs 18 lakh. It took about 3 months and around 25-30 labourers to build the effigy. Notably, Dussehra falls on October 24 this year. The festival marks the victory of good over evil.

Rampant garbage burning along the highways in Mumbai, Thane & Raigad is posing a huge threat to people's health. A survey by the Awaaz Foundation at some of these sites has found that pollution levels had a direct co-relation with the size of the garbage dump being burnt.
