The Parsi community in India is known for its rich culture, traditions and food besides its generous contribution to the economy of our society. However, the awareness on this community’s culture is still limited owing to its close-knit community functioning and sizeable population. 29 March,2019 08:00 AM ISTKyani & Co. in Mumbai is one of the few surviving Irani cafes in the city. The café was started in 1904 by an Iranian gentleman named Khodamrad Merzeban. The legacy continued in 1959 after Aflatoon Shokri and his family took over the popular bakery. The place is now run by Farokh Shokri and is a hotspot for lip-smacking food. Kyani is famous for its mutton cutlets, chicken dhansak, pulao and kheema pav along with host bakery products. Ardeshir Mazkoori, the third generation owner relives the old days while talking to mid-day. Known for its delicious Parsi dishes such as Salli Boti, Cutlets, Patra Ni Machchi, etc, this cafe is frequented by famous personalities and film celebrities.
