Day 7 of the 21-day nationwide lockdown saw a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases as Mumbai reported 59 positive cases, the largest increase in the number of cases within a day across the country. Maharashtra became the first state in India to cross 5000 positive cases of COVID-19 after the state reported 552 fresh cases on Tuesday. After easing lockdown rules in the state, CM Uddhav Thackeray revoked the relaxations for Mumbai and Pune after people were seen defying social distancing norms.
