Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher on February 22 announced that the Delhi Chalo' protest march will be put on hold for 2 days as a 21 year old youth namely Shubhkaran died on February 21 during the protest at khanauri border crossing in Punjab's Sangrur district during clashes with Haryana Police. Some farmers alleged that he was killed in the tear gas shelling by the police. Sarwan Singh said that the protest will continue at the same place wherever it is continuing. On the other hand, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann came out in support of Shubhakaran’s family after the 21-year-old lost his life in the ongoing farmers' protest. He further stated that whichever police personnel are responsible for Shubhkaran's death, action will be taken against them. He further added that the Punjab government will provide financial aid to Shubhkaran’s family.
22 February,2024 11:47 AM ISTAmid the ongoing Farmers Protest 2024, protesting farmers forcibly removed the cement barricade as they tried to cross over the Haryana-Punjab Shambhu border. Protesting farmers threw away police barricades down from the flyover at Shambhu on the Punjab-Haryana border as they marched towards Delhi to press for their demands. In retaliation, the police fired tear gas to disperse protesting farmers at the Punjab-Haryana Shambhu border. Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee General Secretary Sarwan Singh Pandher said "...Around 10,000 people are here at the Shambhu border. The farmers are maintaining a peaceful situation here and tear gas is being used against us through drones. (Protest) will continue until the government agrees to our demands."

A robust force of more than 2000 personnel, including CAPF, Crime Branch staff, and battalions, is ready to maintain security and address any untoward incidents. The Delhi Police has also issued a detailed traffic advisory, in view of the farmers’ protest.

The Trinamool Congress had scheduled a meeting with the minister at the Krishi Bhavan, regarding the party's demand to release funds to West Bengal under the MGNREGA. Minister of State for Rural Development Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti on Tuesday claimed that she waited for Trinamool Congress MPs in her office for over two hours. However, Trinamool Congress leaders claimed that Union minister had given them an appointment but did not meet them. The TMC delegation then sat on dharna, saying they won’t leave without meeting the minister. After some time, the delegation was forcibly removed from the site and detained.
