Celebrations broke out across Maharashtra on the occasion of ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti 2024’ on February 19. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde offered a garland to the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the 394th birth anniversary. On Shivaji’s birth anniversary, people performed ‘Aarti’ and celebrated the occasion. People in Nagpur, Maharashtra, gathered in large numbers on the streets and offered Aarti as a part of celebrations of the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Per the Gregorian calendar, the state observes Shivaji Jayanti with an annual public holiday on February 19. Nonetheless, a sizable population of Maharashtrians commemorate the event on the third day of Phalgun in the Hindu calendar.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the Vedashri Tapovan Math in Pune on February 11. Yogi Adityanath hailed Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s valour and said that he challenged the authority of Aurangzeb and left him to suffer and die in such a way that till today no one is asking about Aurangzeb. He also said that Indians’ relation is with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, not with Mughals. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 04 unveiled the grand statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He reached Rajkot Fort in Sindhudurg district and unveiled the statue. PM will also attend the programme marking ‘Navy Day 2023’ celebrations at Sindhudurg. Prime Minster will also witness the ‘Operational Demonstrations’ by Indian Navy’s ships, submarines, aircraft and special forces from Tarkarli beach, Sindhudurg.

Delegates from G-20's 3rd Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group on May 22 visited Mumbai's iconic monument Gateway of India and Taj palace hotel. Delegates witnessed an enthralling performance by folk artists, dahi handi, traditional dhol and cultural Marathi Lavani. A special digital light and sound show was also screened on the walls of the Gateway of India. The show provided a glimpse of the history of Maharashtra depicting the valour of warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's life journey. The G20 3rd Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group Meeting concluded on May 22. The meeting focussed on aspects related to emerging science, technology and innovation, challenges associated with effective and inclusive policy and governance, and establishing finance mechanisms to support national and regional Blue Economy endeavours.

Emotions ran high as a special flight carrying around 25 students from Maharashtra who were stranded in riot-hit Manipur landed at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport Monday evening. The students, who have been pursuing higher education degrees in various institutions in the northeastern state, and parents who were waiting for them thanked the state government for helping them to return home safely. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on May 07 had said that a special flight will be arranged to bring back the students. CM Shinde also held a telephonic discussion with two students stranded in Manipur.
