India is in a state of shock after the horrific video from violence-hit Manipur went viral. Gut-wrenching video triggered massive outrage and also raised several questions for the state government. Opposition leaders of various parties demanded a political debate and comprehensive statement on the issue. Several Opposition leaders have demanded PM Modi to address the issue in the Parliament. However, BJP has turned the tables after alleging that the Opposition is preventing debate to happen. Union Ministers Amit Shah and Smriti Irani have alleged that “Opposition is trying to hide something.” Five accused, including the prime accused Huirem Herodas Meitei, have been arrested over their involvement in Manipur viral video case. Since May 3, the northeastern state has been gripped by ethnic clashes – primarily between the tribal Kukis, and Meiteis communities.

The death toll in the Raigad landslide in Maharashtra has risen to 22 with the recovery of six more bodies. NDRF continued search and rescue operation at Irshalgad landslide-hit area amid heavy rainfall. The mishap took place in Irshalwadi village of Khalapur Tehsil in Raigad on July 19. Meanwhile, heavy rains continued to lash Mumbai, inundating low-lying areas.

Due to an increase in water level, excess waters reached the outer walls of the Taj Mahal in Agra on July 19. Historic garden behind the seven Wonders of the World, the Taj Mahal completely submerged in floodwaters. Meanwhile, locals are terrified and said that for the first time, they have witnessed such a rise in the water level. As heavy downpour continues to wreak havoc in Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Monday announced helpline numbers for those seeking information about people affected by the rains. CM Sukhu appealed to the people of the state to stay indoors for the next 24 hours and cooperate with the government “in this hour of disaster.” A cloud burst in Thunag caused flash floods in Mandi Monday morning. In a viral video confirmed by the police, water is seen gushing through the roads with debris, split tree branches and mud. At least 14 lives have been lost so far, CM Sukhu said, due to the rains triggering landslides and damaging houses. The IMD issued a red alert in seven districts across the state on Sunday. Amid the surging of the river and falling of stones on the Kullu-Manali road, the movement of vehicles from Kullu and Manali towards Atal Tunnel and Rohtang has been completely stopped. As many as thirteen landslides and nine flash floods have been reported in the state in the past 36 hours, while 736 roads have been closed to traffic.

On Wednesday, 20 opposition political parties, including the Congress, AAP, and TMC, issued a joint statement stating that they would boycott the inauguration, with the primary reason being PM Modi’s decision to inaugurate the new Parliament building, not President Droupadi Murmu. In response, the NDA condemned the move of the opposition parties, saying their decisions over the past nine years have repeatedly shown scant regard for parliamentary procedures. While some of the opposition leaders considered this as a wrong tradition, some decided to not comment on the row.

At least 360 Indians landed safely in Delhi after being evacuated from violence-hit Sudan on Wednesday evening. A Navy ship and IAF C130J plane of Operation Kaveri safely rescued 360 Indians from Port Sudan after a 72-hour ceasefire was declared. The evacuees hailed PM Modi for the safe and swift rescue and were heard chanting ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Modi Zindabad’ upon their arrival in India.
