Prayagraj Court Convicts Atiq Ahmed In Umesh Pal Kidnapping Case

Prayagraj MP-MLA Court sentenced mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed to life imprisonment. Court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on gangster Atiq Ahmed in 2007 Umesh Pal kidnapping case. The Court convicted Atiq Ahmed, and prime accused Dinesh Pasi and Khan Saulat Hanif in the case. However, Umesh Pal’s family members demanded the death sentence for Atiq Ahmed. Meanwhile, Atiq’s brother Ashraf Ahmed and seven others were acquitted by the Prayagraj Court. Umesh Pal, the prime witness in the 2005 murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal, was murdered on Feb 24. Ahmed is also an accused in the 2005 murder case of BSP MLA Raju Pal.

Supreme Court Orders Release Of Rajiv Gandhi’s Assassins After 31 Years

The Supreme Court on Friday ordered premature release of six convicts  including Nalini Sriharan – who were serving life sentences in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. They served 31 years in jail. Convicts R P Ravichandran, Santhan, Murugan, Robert Payas and Jayakumar were also ordered to be released.
