Haldwani Violence: 4 dead, over 100 cops injured, security forces on spot

Security has been stepped up in Banbhoolpura area of Uttarakhand’s Haldwani after violence broke out. An anti-encroachment drive was carried out on February 08 after which violence broke out in the area. So far, 4 persons killed, and over 100 policemen sustained injuries in the Haldwani violence. Four companies of paramilitary forces were rushed to the city to maintain the law and order situation. District Magistrate has imposed a curfew in Banbhoolpura and issued shoot-at-sight orders. Many vehicles including cars, motorcycles were set ablaze during the violence on February 08. Internet Services have been suspended and educational institutions have been closed in the district. Uttarakhand Police has also requested the Home Ministry to send additional paramilitary forces. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami urged locals to maintain the law and order in district.

Shilpa Shetty spoke about the prides she felt of herself for playing the role of a cop. “It has been an absolute honour to wear the uniform," said Vivek Oberoi. Murder of democracy: Vinesh Phogat as clash erupts between wrestlers and cops

High drama unfolded outside Jantar Mantar as Delhi police detained several wrestlers on May 28. The protesting wrestlers were stopped as they attempted to march towards the new Parliament building. A clash erupted between the wrestlers and security personnel while the police tried to stop the protestors from marching forward. Ace wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Sakshee Malik and Bajrang Punia were among others who were detained by Delhi Police. The protestors wanted to march towards new Parliament and hold a women’s Maha Panchayat there. Meanwhile, Delhi Police said that protesting wrestlers breached security cordon while trying to move towards new Parliament building. Delhi police have also reportedly "removed" the makeshift tents placed by the protesting wrestlers at Jantar Mantar in the national capital. The protesters have been staging a sit-in at Jantar Mantar -- about 3 km from the Parliament complex since April 23. The wrestlers demand the resignation and arrest of the president of the wrestling federation. Brij Bhushan Sharan. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, has been accused of sexually harassing young athletes, including a minor.

A quick response from men in uniform saved the life of a 24-year-old man who scaled a mountain in Vasai to jump into a 600-meter deep gorge to end his life after an altercation with his wife. The interfaith couple got married three months ago but the husband started picking up fights as his wife's phone was always busy. The cops rescued the man within 12 minutes.
