China: Satellite Images Show Overcrowded Crematoriums As Covid Surge Continues

Satellite images taken over a number of Chinese cities have captured crowding at crematoriums and funeral homes, as the country continues its battle with an unprecedented wave of Covid-19 infections following its dismantling of severe pandemic restrictions. The images show a funeral home on the outskirts of Beijing, which appears to have constructed a brand-new parking area, as well as lines of vehicles waiting outside of funeral homes in Kunming, Nanjing, Chengdu, Tangshan and Huzhou.

Technical snag at Dadar station led to delay on Central line, now resolved

Thousands of Central Railway (CR) commuters were stranded on Thursday as local train services were delayed due to a signal glitch between Dadar and Parel railway station during the morning rush hour.  Due to a technical snag between Dadar and Parel railway station on fast track (line 06) in Mumbai, a number of passengers, mostly office-goers, got down from the coaches between Sion and Matunga railway station, and started walking along the tracks to reach their offices. Many commuters were seen changing trains on track, while a few boarded moving trains.

Amid the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the city, on 17th September, the Mumbai Police imposed Section 144 under the Code of Criminal Procedure, restricting the movement of people to contain the spread of the deadly virus. The order, issued by DCP Operations, is to be enforced in Mumbai city starting from midnight of 17th September up to 30th September. Our photographers at Mid-Day went on the ground to capture the streets of Mumbai and the real-time scenes in public places after Section 144 was imposed. Unfortunately, people were still seen traveling in hordes at railway stations and other public places, with no care for social distancing or maintaining Coronavirus protocols.
