Cyclone Tauktae: Warship INS Kochi brings 125 rescuees to Mumbai

The warship INS Kochi arrived in Mumbai on 19th May with 125 workmen rescued from barge P305, an accommodation barge that sank amid the Cyclone Tauktae fury. Cyclone Tauktae leaves behind a trail of destruction in Mumbai

Gusty winds along with very heavy rainfall hit Mumbai on May 17 due to the extremely severe cyclonic storm Tauktae, which has barrelled towards Gujarat. As a result, more than 600 trees collapsed across the city, mostly in the South and Western suburbs. Many parts of Mumbai and its neighbouring districts faced severe waterlogging. According to officials, two people were killed in neighbouring Palghar, one person died in Thane, and four people reportedly died in Raigad district in separate incidents related to the cyclonic storm. High-speed winds and heavy rains lashed Mumbai and its neighbouring areas on May 17, as the "extremely severe cyclonic storm" Tauktae headed towards Gujarat, uprooting trees and disrupting local train services in Mumbai. Cyclone Tauktae wreaks havoc in Mumbai

Cyclone Tauktae hit Mumbai with full fury after midnight on 17th May, bringing with it heavy rains, thunder, lightning and powerful gales, wreaking havoc in the city. With Cyclone Tauktae moving closer, the India Meteorological Department has predicted rain and strong winds for the city over the next 48 hours. The IMD said the cyclonic storm Tauktae has further intensified into an Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm with a ragged eye. Watch this video.
