Chennai flood 2023: K Annamalai slams MK Stalin led Tamil Nadu government

Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party President K Annamalai visited the Chennai Ambattur Industrial Estate on December 8 and inquired about the industries affected by the Chennai flood 2023. Annamalai visited the KKR metal components industry, inspected it, and enquired about walking in knee-level water in the company. Annamalai launched a scathing attack on the Tamil Nadu government for its lack of assistance in the flood-hit areas. He further added that the government needs to spend its reserves equally in different parts of Chennai. While speaking to ANI, K Annamalai said, “The government has to acknowledge that something wrong has happened and address the situation. The government has to spend its reserves equally in different parts of Chennai.”

Cyclone Michaung: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh meets Tamil Nadu CM Stalin

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin in Chennai on December 07 and reviewed the situation in wake of cyclone Michaung. Earlier today, Rajnath Singh conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas of Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government announced a holiday for schools and colleges in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu on December 07 due to severe flooding in several parts of these districts in the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung.

Cyclone Michaung: Drone visuals show scale of devastation in Tamil Nadu

Cyclone Michaung barrelled into the southern Indian coast on December 5 with intense winds, its arrival preceded by torrential rains and flooding that killed at least 13 people, as officials assessed the damage. Trees were uprooted and at least 25 villages were inundated as the cyclone traversed northwards and authorities evacuated more than 15,000 people to safety ahead of landfall.  More than 140 trains and 40 flights were cancelled in the state of Tamil Nadu. In Chennai, residents struggled with waist-deep floodwaters that also submerged cars. In an attempt to flush rainwater out of the city, another corporation of Tamil Nadu, Coimbatore, dispatched twelve 41-HP motors to Chennai for flood relief operations.

Cyclone Michaung: Roads turn into Rivers in Chennai, people rescued using boats

Chennai city faced massive waterlogging triggered due to heavy rainfall owing to Cyclone Michaung. Roads in Chennai’s Pallikaranai area were inundated following the heavy rain. People living in the area were rescued using canoes and inflated boats. Public life was severely affected in Chennai as heavy rains lashed several parts of the city. The flood-like situation in Chennai triggered by heavy rainfall owing to ‘Cyclone Michaung’ disrupted not only human lives but displaced livestock and stray animals also. The families were forced to look for ways to stay safe amid the flood-like situation on the roads. Locals did not abandon their furry friends even as they fled to safer places. Some carried their pets in bucket to save them from the dire situation. Several areas, including Wallajah Road, Mount Road, Anna Salai, Chepauk, outside Omandurar government multispecialty hospital and other low-lying areas, were inundated due to persistent heavy rainfall.

Cyclone Michaung landfall underway close to Bapatla in Andhra Pradesh

The severe cyclonic storm, Michaung with winds up to 100 kmph is currently making landfall close to Bapatla in Andhra Pradesh. Machilipatnam witnessed strong winds and rain under the effect of the Cyclone. The onset of the landfall of the severe cyclone Michaung commenced in the region spanning from Nellore to Kavali in Andhra Pradesh. The landfall process is likely to continue for the next couple of hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red alert for coastal Andhra Pradesh. The severe cyclone left a trail of destruction in Tamil Nadu. In Chennai, houses and streets submerged and trees uprooted following heavy rainfall and strong winds.

Cyclone Michaung to make landfall, South Coast of Andhra witness gusty winds

Gusty winds with moderate rainfall, were witnessed in parts of southern Andhra on December 05 as Cyclone Michaung is likely to make landfall near the southern coast of Andhra's Nellore and Machilipatnam today. As per the weather department, Cyclone Michaung, centered over the west coast of the Bay of Bengal, off south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts, is likely to cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast in the form of a severe cyclonic storm. Cyclonic storm Michaung is set to make landfall near Bapatla in Andhra Pradesh on December 5 around noon. Michaung’s wind speed is anticipated to reach severe cyclonic levels, with a maximum sustained speed of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph. Yesterday, an orange alert was given by IMD for Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts as cyclone Michaung approached the South Andhra coast. Meanwhile, as rain lashed Chennai several areas of Chennai and its neighboring districts were inundated due to which public life was severely affected.  Several trees were uprooted as strong winds swept Tamil Nadu on December 04 subways were closed due to severe waterlogging in Chennai.

Cyclone Biparjoy is heading towards Rajasthan after creating havoc in Gujarat

Cyclone Biparjoy which formed over the Arabian Sea and recently made landfall on Gujarat's coastal area is now heading towards Rajasthan. A "red" alert has been issued for Jalore and Barmer districts of Rajasthan. Parts of Rajasthan have seen heavy rainfall since last night as the cyclone approaches the state in the form of a ‘depression’. There is also a possibility of a storm with a speed of up to 70 km.
