Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a press conference on April 07.  During a press conference in Rajasthan’s Jaipur, Defence Minister outfoxed the reporters with his witty and humourous replies. Be it the question on the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 result or Pakistan’s remark on the General Elections, Singh gave chucklesome answers to the reporters which left then cracking. Rajnath Singh said, “When results will come, see the margin… If there was no democracy, you wouldn’t be able to ask questions now… Let it be…Don’t compare us with Pakistan,” said Rajnath Singh. PM Modi praises India's Defence sector growth, calls it a monumental achievement

For the first time in the history of Independent India, defence exports touched a record Rs 21,083 crore in the financial year 2023-24. India’s defence exports saw a record growth of 32.5 pc over the last fiscal year when the figure was Rs 15,920 crore. The recent figures have indicated that the defence exports have grown by 31 times in the last 10 years. Meanwhile, PM Narendra Modi called India’s defence sector growth a “monumental achievement”. The Prime Minister lauded the team’s hard work those who propelled India onto the global stage in defence. Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh hailed PM Modi’s visionary leadership and congratulated all stakeholders. The defence industry, including private sector, has made tremendous efforts in achieving the highest-ever defence exports. The private sector and the DPSUs have contributed about 60 per cent and 40 per cent, respectively.

Watch: Tejas MK-1A successfully completes its maiden flight

In a historic milestone, indigenous LCA Mark 1A fighter aircraft on March 28 completed its first flight. The aircraft airborne for 15 minutes during its first maiden flight, as per Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). Currently, two squadrons of IAF, 45 Squadron and 18 Squadron, are fully operational with LCA Tejas. HAL has current capacity to build 8 LCA aircraft per year, this is being increased to 16 aircraft's every year by 2025. In coming years the capacity will be further increased to 24 aircraft every year in the next 3 years. Over Rs 9000 crore have been sanctioned for the development of LCA Mk 2, an updated and advanced version of LCA Tejas. Earlier in the 2023, Air Chief Marshal stated that the Indian Air Force aims to replace the MiG-21 fighter jets with LCA Tejas.

BrahMos Missile: Indian Navy to buy 220 BrahMos extended-range missiles

The Cabinet Committee on Security has cleared the Indian Navy’s proposals to buy 220 BrahMos extended-range missiles for its warships. The contract will be signed on March 05 and 220 BrahMos will be worth around Rs 20,000 crore. The extended-range BrahMos is speculated to have an extended range of around 800 km. This would be a major ‘Make in India’ success for the missile system built with Russia’s partnership. India’s BrahMos is a universal long-range supersonic cruise missile system that can be launched from land, sea, and air. Not only to just Indian Navy, but the indigenous BrahMos missile system will also be exported to the Philippines. In January, DRDO Chief Dr Samir Kamat informed ANI about the export of India’s missile system to the Philippines.

While replying to Motion of Thanks on the President's Address, Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Chowdhury slammed Centre over India vs Maldives row and China’s intrusion bids along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Defence Minister Rajnath Singh objected to the Congress leader’s comments in the Parliament and said India “shouldn’t be defamed in the Parliament”. He also said that the country is not weak anymore and it has emerged strong. "I would like to assure the House that India is not weak anymore. India has become strong. If someone dares to stare at India, India has the capability and strength. to give a befitting reply...The country should not be unnecessarily defamed in the forum of the Parliament," the Defence Minister said.  Union Minister Kiren Rijiju waded into the debate and countered Adhir Chowdhury’s claims.

Contradicting speculative news reports, US State Department confirms India-US

India's deal with the US of almost USD 4 billion, paving the way for the acquisition of 31 state-of-the-art MQ-9B Sky Guardian drones, will not only propel India's defence capabilities but also ensure a 16-fold increase in the number of aircraft, significantly enhancing New Delhi's maritime security beyond the current lease agreement. US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller shed light on the recently approved foreign military sale of MQ-9B Remotely Piloted Aircraft to India. He said, "I cannot give a timeline. This was the initial step today. Notifying Congress of the exact timeline of the delivery is something that we will explore with the government of India over the coming months. "Highlighting the significance of the deal, Miller emphasised,"Almost USD 4 billion sale of 31 MQ-9B Sky Guardian aircraft will provide India with enhanced maritime security and maritime domain awareness capability. It offers India outright ownership and a 16-fold increase in the number of aircraft as compared to their current lease. "The Biden administration has today notified the US Congress of its intent to sell nearly 4 billion dollars worth of arms, comprising mainly MQ-9B drones armed with Hellfire missiles. The defence security cooperation agency, which is an agency within the US Department of Defence, said in a press release on Thursday that the sale helps in strengthening the US-Indian Strategic Relationship. It added that New Delhi continues to be an "important force for political stability, peace, and economic progress in the Indo-Pacific and South Asia region." Watch the full video for more details!

Indian Defence officials on January 29 informed that the Indian Navy warship INS Sumitra rescued fishermen hijacked by Somali pirates. In the latest update the Indian Navy on January 31 shared a video of the rescue operation. In the video, the Pakistani-Iranian crew expressed gratitude and explained how pirates dumped their weapons after seeing the Indian Navy and they also raised Indian Navy zindabad . Later in the video, the crew chanted ‘All hail Indian Navy’ and ‘Thank you for saving our lives’The incident happened about 700 nautical miles west of Kochi in the Arabian Sea. The Iranian fishing vessel FV Iman was boarded with around 17 crew members which was hijacked by pirates. INS Sumitra intercepted the vessel and acted by the established SOPs to coerce the pirates for the safe release of the crew. Later, the FV was subsequently sanitized and released for onward transit. The latest attack came amid a series of attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels on cargo vessels in the Red Sea and other crucial business routes

Apache Attack Helicopters deployed in Jodhpur near Pakistan by Indian Army

The Indian Army has decided to bolster its combat capabilities near the Pakistan border in the western desert. In that series, six Apache attack helicopters will be deployed near international borders at a military station in Jodhpur. The Indian Air Force already has a fleet of 22 Apache helicopters deployed at both western and northern borders. The American attack helicopters were deployed in the eastern Ladakh sector soon after the Chinese aggression started in 2020. The original equipment manufacturer Boeing announced in August last year that it had started the production of Apache Helicopters for the Indian Army at its state-of-art facility in the US. The production process builds upon an ongoing collaboration with Tata Boeing Aerospace Limited (TBAL) which plays a pivotal role in the manufacturing of AH-64E fuselages at its cutting-edge facility in Hyderabad.
