‘Boycott Maldives’ trends | Maldives MP draws flak downplaying Lakshadweep

PM Modi’s recent visit to the ‘Land of Corals’ Lakshadweep, has shot India’s beach heaven to the limelight. The Indian PM shared a post in which he could be seen snorkelling, walking on white sand, and resting on a pristine beach. Soon after the post went viral, Lakshadweep became the 10th most searched word on Google in India. Netizens were quick to compare Lakshadweep with Maldives, and they claimed the former could be a better beach vacation spot. However, the surging popularity of the m Indian island has not been taken in good taste by an MP from Maldives. Reacting to a post featuring PM Modi's visit, Maldives MP Zahid Rameez said that the idea of competing with them is "delusional". Taking to X, PPM's Zahid Rameez made a controversial remark saying, "The permanent smell in the rooms will be the biggest downfall" for India. Twitter users were quick to lambast the Maldives politician for his 'distasteful' remarks on Lakshadweep. Maldives may be one of the top tourist spots, but PM Modi’s vision for Lakshadweep has propelled UT's tourism prospects. PM Modi’s focus in Lakshadweep is to uplift the lives of the people through enhanced development. The Central Government plans to make Lakshadweep a major tourist hub like Maldives. PM Modi Govt has infused more than Rs 1,150 crore to enhance Lakshadweep’s infrastructure. Lakshadweep is situated just north of the Maldives, 400 kilometres west of mainland India. For the tourists who wish to explore their adventurer side, Lakshadweep has to be on their list.

Mumbai sizzles as monsoon withdraws

As the southwest monsoon bids adieu to Mumbai and its adjoining areas, the mercury level is expected to climb, ushering in a summer-like feeling. Meteorologists and weather experts anticipate not only increased temperatures owing to the monsoon withdrawal but also a gradual decline in air quality during this transition. According to the forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city and suburbs will witness intense heat next week. According to IMD’s weekly weather forecast, the maximum temperature is likely to rise up to 32 degrees Celsius from October 9 to 13. After that, there will be some decrease in temperature. The maximum temperatures recorded at the Santacruz and Colaba observatories were 35.9 and 33 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, relative humidity at both weather stations was 71 per cent and 81 per cent, respectively.

India on Tuesday expelled a senior Canadian diplomat to India in a reciprocal move to Canada expelling a senior Indian diplomat. Canadian High Commissioner to India, Cameron MacKay was summoned today to the South Block, the headquarters of the Ministry of External Affairs. The netizens on Twitter expressed their dismay over Canadian HC’s ‘attitude’ as he left South Block after being summoned by the Ministry of External Affairs.  “The anger in which he shut the car door shows what kind of talk he got. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday accused the Indian government of being behind the fatal shooting of Khalistan Tiger Force chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada, CBC News reported.

Sakshi Malik on Monday denied withdrawing from the ongoing wrestlers' protest against -WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. She has joined back her position in the Northern Railway. The meeting was held late on Saturday as the wrestlers raised their demand for WFI chief Brij Bhushan’s arrest. RBI withdraws Rs 2000 notes from circulation, politicians react

The Reserve Bank of India on Friday announced the withdrawal Rs 2,000 note, from circulation, adding that the notes will continue to be legal tender. It said the existing Rs 2,000 notes can be deposited or exchanged in banks until September 30, but with a limit “Rs 20,000 at a time”. The central bank advised the public to deposit Rs 2,000 notes — introduced during demonetisation in November 2016, into their bank accounts and/ or exchange them into notes of other denominations at any bank branch. It also advised banks to stop issuing Rs 2,000 notes with immediate effect. This decision received praise as well as criticism from political fronts.
