Former Maharashtra chief minister Manohar Joshi passed away at the age of 86. Reportedly, he suffered a cardiac arrest on 21st February, Thursday and was immediately admitted to the ICU of P D Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai. Manohar Joshi passed away at around 3am on Friday due to age-related health complications. The news was confirmed by P D Hinduja Hospital chief operating officer Joy Chakravarty. Manohar Joshi had been suffering from health issues since May 2023. He suffered a brain hemorrhage, the previous year and since then his health wasn't in good shape. Born in Raigad district of Maharashtra in a Brahmin family, Joshi did his master of Arts and LLB from Mumbai University. He began his political career by being elected to the Legislative Council and served three terms from 1972 to 1989. He also became the Mayor of Mumbai from 1976 to 1977. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly from a Shiv Sena ticket in 1990. He served as CM of Maharashtra from 1995-1999. He was elected for a six-year term to the Rajya Sabha on 20 March 2006 after being defeated in the previous Lok Sabha election in the Central Mumbai constituency.

A day ahead of the consecration ceremony at the Ram Temple, actress Kangana Ranaut reached Ayodhya on Jan 21. She visited the Hanuman Garhi Temple in Ayodhya and offered prayers. As part of PM Modi’s cleanliness drive, Kangana Ranaut cleaned the temple’s premises. The ‘Pran Pratishtha’ of the new Ram Lalla idol will be held on Jan 22 in Ayodhya. The ceremony scheduled for January 22 will witness the installation of the idol of Ram Lalla at the grand temple. It is expected to be attended by hundreds of officials, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The trust has also invited 4,000 saints of all sects for the Ayodhya Ram Mandir Consecration.

On the first day of New Year 2024, ISRO is going to launch another space mission PSLV-C58 / XPoSat. XPoSat is the first scientific satellite from ISRO to carry out research in space-based polarisation measurements of X-ray emission from celestial source. This will be India’s first dedicated mission to study emissions from black holes, neutron stars. The launch will be carried out from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. 2023 has been a successful year for ISRO as many successful missions have been carried out. Chandrayaan-3 was the most iconic as India became the first country to reach the south pole of the Moon. India’s solar mission Aditya-L1 is also nearing success as the spacecraft is inching closer to L1 point.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Anurag Thakur and Smriti Irani hit out at Congress on December 08 after crores of rupees were recovered from Congress party MP Dheeraj Kumar Sahu's premises during Income Tax raids. As the raids entered the third day, Income Tax sleuths recovered more than Rs 200 crore cash from several locations in Odisha and Jharkhand. The residences of Congress Rajya Sabha MP Dhiraj Sahu were also searched. Recently, the Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami was prevented from entering a Gurudwara in Glasgow, Scotland. This comes amid a diplomatic row between India and Canada over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. A video of the incident has been doing rounds on the internet, where a man can be seen blocking Doraiswami from entering the Gurudwara. Colin Bloom, former advisor to UK government, said that the Khalistan extremism has escalated due to the inability of Western governments to do enough. Bloom stressed that both the British and Canadian governments should take more proactive measures to address this issue. India has flagged the issue with the UK Foreign Office and also the police, according to sources.
