A tragic shipwreck off Yemen’s southern coast has left at least 68 African migrants dead, with dozens still missing. The overloaded vessel, carrying 157 people, sank in rough weather while attempting to cross from the Horn of Africa to the Gulf. This is just the latest in a series of deadly incidents. Yemen, despite more than a decade of civil war, remains a key transit route for migrants fleeing poverty and conflict in Ethiopia, Somalia, Djibouti, and Eritrea. Smugglers continue to exploit desperate migrants, cramming them onto unsafe boats and sending them into dangerous waters.
