At least nine cars were badly damaged after a huge tree in a residential building collapsed on them in Mumbai on Saturday morning. The incident happened in Mumbai's Malabar Hill area inside Geetanjali building. Besides cars, a boundary wall of the society was damaged too. Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) rushed to the spot. Further details awaited. Meanwhile, the IMD on Saturday issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, predicting heavy rainfall in parts of Maharashtra in the next 4-5 days. As per the weather update issued by IMD at 10 am, light to moderate spells of rain are very likely to occur at Mumbai, Raigad, Thane, and Palghar during the next 3-4 hours.

J&K SDRF teams reached the spot to carry out rescue operation. Deepak, one of the survivors said that there were 70-75 people in bus. “The incident happened around 5:30 am. We were sleeping. We were going to Maa Vaishno Devi Temple,” he said.

Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadanvis expressed his sorrow over the incident.He said, “The Khopoli incident is extremely painful. Around 41 passengers were travelling on the bus. 12 people died on spot and remaining were rescued. 18 passengers have been admitted to MGM hospital. 10 have been admitted to Khopoli Nagarpalika Hospital and 1 has been admitted to Jhakotia hospital. The government will help the family members of those impacted in the accident. Investigation is under process to find out the reasons behind this accident. My sympathies are with those who lost their close ones in the accident,” he added.

With the vertical approach, we have reached 43-44 feet. There is some movement seen in the baby, but no contact has been made yet. The four women on the jetty were: Neela Dhami Singh Dasana(24), Santu Gisu Singh Dasana(15), Basanti Gisu Singh Dasana (14), Prema Narayan Dasana (23). Reportedly, while taking a selfie, one of them falls into the river. While saving her, the remaining three also started drowning. Local people rescued Basanti and Prema safely, but a 15-year-old girl Santu lost her life. Neela is said to be missing, and the rescue operation by Police and fire brigade team is going on

The bus broke the railing of a bridge on the National Highway No.3 (Agra-Mumbai road), situated close to Dhar and Khargone borders, and then fell into the river.
