A former Indian Army officer working with the United Nations was killed in Gaza as the Israel-Hamas war continues to rage on. The incident took place when the vehicle he was travelling in came under attack in strife-torn Rafah. The deceased retired Indian army officer was identified as Colonel Waibhav Anil Kale. The identity of Kale was revealed by UN Secretary-General Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq issuing a statement. UN condemns all the attacks and has called for a full investigation and sent condolences to the family members. As per BBC, The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) said that the vehicle was struck in an active combat zone. The vehicle route in which the UN staffers were travelling was not been made aware to them. Three Indian men were arrested in Canada on May 03 in connection with Hardeep Singh Nijjar. After the arrest, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has made first comments related to the case. He said that Canada is a rule-of-law country with a strong and independent justice system, CBC reported. Notably, Justin Trudeau had earlier raised allegations of India’s involvement in Nijjar’s killing. India’s MEA had vehemently rejected Trudeau’s claims and called them “absurd”. Just after the arrests were made, Trudeau’s ally and NDP leader Jagmeet Singh took to ‘X’ and claimed of India’s involvement in the case. “The Indian government hired assassins to murder a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil - at a place of worship. Today 3 arrests were made. Let me be clear - any Indian agent or state actor that ordered, planned or carried out this murder must be exposed and met with the full force of Canadian law. For Canada, democracy and free speech - there must be Justice for Hardeep Singh Nijjar,” Jagmeet Singh wrote. Though he made claims against the Indian government, the Canadian Police has said that investigation in the matter is still underway. Notably, Jagmeet’s NDP has supported the Liberal minority government led by Trudeau in exchange for support on some key bills. New Democratic Party’s leader Jagmeet Singh is a pro-Khalistani and is known for his anti-India stand.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 20 reacted to the gruesome killing of 24-year-old Neha Hiremath in Karnataka’s Hubballi. The Home Voting for first phase of Lok Sabha election began in Rajasthan on April 5. The home voting facility announced by Election Commission of India has been extended to senior citizens above 85 years of age and voters with over 40 percent disability. In Jaipur Lok Sabha constituency, a total of 3,632 eligible voters, including 3,134 voters above 85 years of age and 498 voters with more than 40 percent disability, have applied for home voting facility. In Jaipur Rural Lok Sabha constituency, a total of 3, 971 eligible voters, including 3,130 voters above 85 years of age and 841 voters with more than 40 percent disability, have applied for home voting facility. In the first phase home voting facility will be provided till April 13 from morning 7 AM to 6 PM. Under the second phase home voting facility will be provided for absentee voters on 15th April and 16th April. Special polling teams have been assigned for Home voting facility. Each polling team includes two polling officers, one micro observer, one policeman and one videographer.

In a historic milestone, indigenous LCA Mark 1A fighter aircraft on March 28 completed its first flight. The aircraft airborne for 15 minutes during its first maiden flight, as per Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). Currently, two squadrons of IAF, 45 Squadron and 18 Squadron, are fully operational with LCA Tejas. HAL has current capacity to build 8 LCA aircraft per year, this is being increased to 16 aircraft's every year by 2025. In coming years the capacity will be further increased to 24 aircraft every year in the next 3 years. Over Rs 9000 crore have been sanctioned for the development of LCA Mk 2, an updated and advanced version of LCA Tejas. Earlier in the 2023, Air Chief Marshal stated that the Indian Air Force aims to replace the MiG-21 fighter jets with LCA Tejas.
