Mumbai Coastal Road Project is finally opening up for use and this is a dream come true for all those spending hours stuck in traffic on the South-bound route of Mumbai. Made at a cost of thousands of crores, Mumbai’s coastal road project is an infrastructure marvel that has been built on mega investment and mega sacrifices, especially by Mumbai’s fishermen community i.e the Koli community. The Journey of Mumbai’s fishermen community has not been easy. How has been their journey with the project since the beginning of the project and what did they stand to gain and lose with the project? Mid-day spoke to fishermen and this is what they had to say. “Indian Navy Zindabad…” This is how rescued Pakistani-Iranian sailors thanked

Indian Defence officials on January 29 informed that the Indian Navy warship INS Sumitra rescued fishermen hijacked by Somali pirates. In the latest update the Indian Navy on January 31 shared a video of the rescue operation. In the video, the Pakistani-Iranian crew expressed gratitude and explained how pirates dumped their weapons after seeing the Indian Navy and they also raised Indian Navy zindabad . Later in the video, the crew chanted ‘All hail Indian Navy’ and ‘Thank you for saving our lives’The incident happened about 700 nautical miles west of Kochi in the Arabian Sea. The Iranian fishing vessel FV Iman was boarded with around 17 crew members which was hijacked by pirates. INS Sumitra intercepted the vessel and acted by the established SOPs to coerce the pirates for the safe release of the crew. Later, the FV was subsequently sanitized and released for onward transit. The latest attack came amid a series of attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels on cargo vessels in the Red Sea and other crucial business routes

India Signs Pact With Japan To Design Bullet Train Station At Mumbai's BKC

India on March 20 signed a historic pact of approx. Rs 3,000 crores with Japanese government, for work related to the design, construction of the underground Mumbai High-Speed Rail Station. This is first contract being awarded on the Maharashtra side of Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed bullet train corridor. The total area of the station complex is 4.85 hectares and total completion time is expected to be 54 months from the date of commencement. The station will have six platforms and length of each platform is approximately 415 metres, which is sufficient to accommodate a 16-coach bullet train. It is pertinent to note that Bandra Kurla Complex HSR station is the only underground station on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor. The platform is planned at a depth of about 24 meters from the ground level and will have three floors including a platform, concourse and service floor. Two entry/exit points are planned one to facilitate access to the nearby metro station and the other towards the adjacent MTNL building.   #BulletTrain #Japan #IndiaJapan

Fishermen from Worli were protesting against the width of the proposed navigation span which was part of the coastal road project. Members of the fishing community had demanded that the width of the span should be increased to 200m, after rounds of protests & BMC’s refusal to accept their demands Shinde-Fadnavis government setup a new technical. Senior officials associated with the Coastal Road project stated that after multiple assessments and technical visits, the decision to increase the gap was taken. There’s joy & celebration across Mumbai’s fishing community, the Kolis in Worli & Mumbai are in celebration mood.
