Flash floods wreak havoc in Sikkim; claim 26 lives

Flash floods have wreaked havoc in the north-eastern state of Sikkim. As per Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority, the death toll from flash floods in Sikkim has reached 26. A total of 142 people have been reported missing. Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang visited flood-affected areas of Mangan’s Naga Village and interacted with the victims of flood. The Mangan district has been allotted a relief package of Rs 25 crore. NDMA, SSDMA personnel and dedicated volunteers are tirelessly engaged in rescue and relief operations. As per an SSDMA report, 2,413 people have been rescued, and 1,203 houses have been damaged. CM Tamang chaired a high-level meeting at his official residence in Mintokgang on Oct 05.

Many roads were washed away and houses got damaged in Richu village of Mangan district following flash floods in Sikkim. Days after a deluge caused by a glacial lake outburst gripped the region, search efforts for the 16 missing Army soldiers and evacuation of thousands of people stranded in various parts of the state are underway. A survey is being carried out by all agencies to assess the damage and plan restoration of road connectivity.

14 dead, 100 missing in Sikkim flash floods; one army jawan rescued

At least 14 people were killed and over 100 are still missing in the Sikkim flash floods, according to officials. As per government sources, people are reportedly missing from Chungthang in Mangan district; Dikchu, Singtam in Gangtok district and Rangpo in Pakyong district. Over 20,000 people have been affected by the natural disaster. More than 3,000 tourists are feared to be stranded in different parts of the state. About 12-14 workers working in the Teesta Stage 3 dam in Chungthang are still stranded in the tunnels of the dam. Meanwhile, the Indian Army started helplines for families of missing people in Sikkim, including soldiers. One of the 23 missing Army personnel was rescued Wednesday, while the rest are still reportedly missing. West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose assessed the situation in flood-affected regions of Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, and Kalimpong after flash floods hit Sikkim.

A sudden cloud burst over Lhonak Lake in North Sikkim has led to a flash flood in Teesta River in Sikkim’s Lachen. Some army establishments along the valley have been affected and efforts are on to confirm details. 23 personnel have been reportedly missing after a cloudburst triggered a flash flood in the state. Some vehicles are reportedly submerged under the slush. Search and rescue operations are still underway. A similar flood-like situation is being witnessed in Singtam. CM Prem Singh Tamang rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation in the affected areas.

Himachal Rains: '16 bodies recovered so far', NDRF personnel gives information

The rescue operations in rain-battered Shimla entered day six on August 19. Joint rescue operations are underway by NDRF, SDRF, Indian Army and local people. So far, 16 bodies, among 20 people have been recovered from the Summer Hill area of Shimla. Over 70 people have lost their lives in the hilly state of Himachal Pradesh due to the deadly monsoon. Moreover, the state has suffered a loss of more than 7,500 crores, as per the govt reports.

Himachal Rains: Watch| Indian Air Force rescues over 780 people in Kangra

Incessant rains in Himachal Pradesh this week wreaked havoc as it triggered landslides across the state, blocking roads, bringing down houses, and causing damage to life and property. Teams of the State Disaster Response Force have been involved in rescue operations. The Indian Air Force also joined the operations evacuating people to safer places in the state’s Kangra district. In a tweet  the Indian Air Force said it carried out over 50 sorties and rescued over 780 people. Speaking about the rescue operations Deputy Commissioner of Kangra Nipun Jindal gave information.
