Watch: Tejas MK-1A successfully completes its maiden flight

In a historic milestone, indigenous LCA Mark 1A fighter aircraft on March 28 completed its first flight. The aircraft airborne for 15 minutes during its first maiden flight, as per Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). Currently, two squadrons of IAF, 45 Squadron and 18 Squadron, are fully operational with LCA Tejas. HAL has current capacity to build 8 LCA aircraft per year, this is being increased to 16 aircraft's every year by 2025. In coming years the capacity will be further increased to 24 aircraft every year in the next 3 years. Over Rs 9000 crore have been sanctioned for the development of LCA Mk 2, an updated and advanced version of LCA Tejas. Earlier in the 2023, Air Chief Marshal stated that the Indian Air Force aims to replace the MiG-21 fighter jets with LCA Tejas.

PM Narendra Modi during his visit to Kerala on 27th February revealed the names of the four astronauts who have been selected for India's first human space mission Gaganyaan. Group Captain Prashanth Nair, Ajit Krishnan, Angad Pratap and Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla will join the mission. PM Modi reviewed the progress of Gaganyaan Mission and bestowed astronaut wings to the astronaut designates. Para-athlete Suvarna Raj, who has represented the country in global events, on February 3 accused the IndiGo airline crew of 'mistreatment', saying she requested the carrier to provide her a personal wheelchair at the aircraft door but the staff did not respond. On the IndiGo’s mistreatment, Suvarna alleged that she was mistreated by IndiGo crew members while taking a flight from New Delhi to Chennai. Suvarna had booked seat number 39D(Aisle) on the Chennai-bound flight on Friday. Ahead of the grand consecration ceremony at Ayodhya’s Ram Temple on January 22, the passengers alighting from the first flight to the newly built Maharishi Valmiki International Airport Ayodhya Dham hailed PM Modi on December 30. They thanked PM Modi for giving them Ayodhya Airport as a gift. Passengers were also seen paying obeisance and chanting Jai Shree Ram while alighting the flight. “This land is pure and sacred, this is the land of Shri Ram. There can be no sacred ground like this. To pay obeisance here one should lie down. When Shri Ram got down from Pushpak Viman, the same experience was felt. There is no limit to happiness today. Today is the matter of greatest joy and happiness in my life,” said Bhaskar Shukla, a passenger from Delhi. On the other hand, another passenger, Nitin Lalwani from a Delhi flight said, “Ever since I was born I found Ayodhya, a city which was backward. But today there is a feeling that Ayodhya has become an international city. Now we are waiting for 22nd January when the Temple will be inaugurated. People will come from across the world to see Ayodhya, a pure land of Shree Ram.”, he said.

PM Narendra Modi takes a sortie on Tejas, terms it an “incredibly enriching”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Nov 25 flew a sortie on Tejas Aircraft in Bengaluru. PM Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) and shared his experience. PM termed it an “incredibly enriching” experience and wrote that it left a renewed “sense of pride” with him. The first version of the Light Combat Aircraft was inducted into the Indian Air Force in 2016. Currently, two squadrons of IAF, 45 Squadron and 18 Squadron, are fully operational with LCA Tejas. Under BJP-led NDA Govt, an order worth Rs 36,468 Cr for the delivery of 83 LCA Mk 1A aircraft has been placed with HAL. The delivery of these aircraft is scheduled to begin by February 2024. Also, over Rs 9000 Cr have been sanctioned for the development of LCA Mk 2, an updated and more lethal version of LCA Tejas. Transfer of Technology for manufacturing of the GE engine in India was negotiated with GE during PM’s visit to the US in June 2023
