In a historic milestone, indigenous LCA Mark 1A fighter aircraft on March 28 completed its first flight. The aircraft airborne for 15 minutes during its first maiden flight, as per Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). Currently, two squadrons of IAF, 45 Squadron and 18 Squadron, are fully operational with LCA Tejas. HAL has current capacity to build 8 LCA aircraft per year, this is being increased to 16 aircraft's every year by 2025. In coming years the capacity will be further increased to 24 aircraft every year in the next 3 years. Over Rs 9000 crore have been sanctioned for the development of LCA Mk 2, an updated and advanced version of LCA Tejas. Earlier in the 2023, Air Chief Marshal stated that the Indian Air Force aims to replace the MiG-21 fighter jets with LCA Tejas.

PM Narendra Modi during his visit to Kerala on 27th February revealed the names of the four astronauts who have been selected for India's first human space mission Gaganyaan. Group Captain Prashanth Nair, Ajit Krishnan, Angad Pratap and Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla will join the mission. PM Modi reviewed the progress of Gaganyaan Mission and bestowed astronaut wings to the astronaut designates. Para-athlete Suvarna Raj, who has represented the country in global events, on February 3 accused the IndiGo airline crew of 'mistreatment', saying she requested the carrier to provide her a personal wheelchair at the aircraft door but the staff did not respond. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Nov 25 flew a sortie on Tejas Aircraft in Bengaluru. PM Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) and shared his experience. PM termed it an “incredibly enriching” experience and wrote that it left a renewed “sense of pride” with him. The first version of the Light Combat Aircraft was inducted into the Indian Air Force in 2016. Currently, two squadrons of IAF, 45 Squadron and 18 Squadron, are fully operational with LCA Tejas. Under BJP-led NDA Govt, an order worth Rs 36,468 Cr for the delivery of 83 LCA Mk 1A aircraft has been placed with HAL. The delivery of these aircraft is scheduled to begin by February 2024. Also, over Rs 9000 Cr have been sanctioned for the development of LCA Mk 2, an updated and more lethal version of LCA Tejas. Transfer of Technology for manufacturing of the GE engine in India was negotiated with GE during PM’s visit to the US in June 2023
